• India to focus on boosting electronic component manufacturing; new scheme in works: MeitY Secretary

  A senior government official announced a renewed emphasis on bolstering domestic electronics component manufacturing. Speaking at the CII Electronic Summit, S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity), highlighted that 99% of the local mobile phone market relies on domestic manufacturing. To fuel further growth, the focus is on enhancing competitiveness, value addition, and facilitating exports in the next phase of development.

• Apple iPhone India production: Tata plans big new factory

  The plant would bolster Apple’s efforts to localize its supply chain and strengthen its partnership with Tata, which already has an iPhone factory it acquired from Wistron Corp in the neighboring Karnataka state. Apple is diversifying its operations away from China by working with assembly and component manufacturing partners in India, Thailand, Malaysia and elsewhere.

  HP is optimistic about the Indian government's revised Make in India plans for laptops. CEO Enrique Lores sees the new import policy as an opportunity for aggressive investment and manufacturing expansion in the country, including offering budget devices under $200 or monthly subscriptions of $10.

  The neckband IP is a feature-rich product that offers a great value proposition for Indian brands and consumers. The industry association said the IP is the result of innovative design and approaches implemented by Boat engineers, who collaborated with worldwide technology partners, component suppliers, and distribution partners to achieve the best-optimised Bill of Material and to select the system-on-chip (SoC) and other quality components.

  

• Xiaomi supplier Dixon Tech to open smartphone plant as India pushes local

  Beijing-based Xiaomi has been compelled to partner with Dixon for smartphone assembly because India is pressing Chinese companies to localize everything from manufacturing to distribution of devices.

  CMR estimates the iPhone 15 shipments in the launch quarter to hover around 65 per cent, driven by an increased 'Make in India' initiatives.

  

• French Thomson plans to enter laptop market in India

  Thomson sees an opportunity with the government imposing restrictions on laptop imports from November 1. The company, which re-entered the Indian market in 2018 in partnership with SPPL, primarily makes TVs in India which it sells online only through Flipkart, and for laptops, too, it will follow a similar strategy. Thomson laptops are sold in France and other European countries.

  Foxconn is accelerating its global migration away from China and plans to spend billions of US dollars in India and elsewhere, as a rebound in demand for gadgets fails to materialise and its former mega-factory strategy loses efficiency. Before, China offered labour, logistics and reliability advantages, but now, no country will replace China as the centre of global electronics manufacturing.

  

• Foxconn boss sees potential to invest billions in India

  Foxconn -- also known by its official name Hon Hai Precision Industry -- is the world's biggest contract electronics manufacturer and assembles devices for many companies, most notably Apple's iPhones.
