The satellite was launched atop the GSLV-F14 rocket from Sriharikota. It will observe various atmospheric parameters and provide information related to the weather and the climate, the space agency said.
According to ISRO, the objective of Saturday's mission GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS would provide continuity of services to existing operational INSAT-3D (launched in 2013) and INSAT-3DR (September 2016) for enhanced meteorological observations, monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning, as well as to provide Satellite aided Research and Rescue services (SAR) among others.
The primary objectives of the mission are to monitor Earth’s surface, carry out oceanic observations and its environment in various spectral channels of meteorological importance, and to provide the vertical profile of various meteorological parameters of the atmosphere.
Speaking to on the sidelines of an event in Bengaluru on Sunday, he said, "ISRO never competes with anybody. It is a space community. And especially, the space community will flourish well with the collaborations. We are collaborating with NASA and other space agencies."
After testing its SAR on a drone, Sisir Radar has now successfully tried that principle with a radar fitted on a car and picked up signatures at 1.5 km distance.
The key non-governmental entities that have planned sub-orbital and orbital launches during this period are Agnikul Cosmos and Skyroot Aerospace.

Startups qualifying for the programme can receive an array of benefits, including up to $100,000 in AWS credits, as well as guidance from experts at ISRO, IN-SPACe, and AWS, and business and technology support from T-Hub and Minfy.
"Several countries have successfully implemented public-private partnerships (PPPs) to enhance their satellite communication capabilities, and collaborations between government agencies and private enterprises have proven to be effective in driving innovation, reducing costs, and accelerating the deployment of new technologies. India can explore similar partnerships and encourage collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and private entities."
The new Act is concise, and aims to simplify a complex framework, in line with ease of doing business and promoting new and evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and quantum computing.
