Apple is increasingly looking to diversify its supply chain beyond China amid geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington, even as China remains the largest iPhone-making hub in the world.
Foxconn said in a statement that this year's second quarter "remains a traditional off-peak season, and major products are entering a period of transition between old and new products".
Confirming the diversification strategy, Bharat FIH said it was leveraging on its success in smartphones to make strides in newer segments such as EVs. The company declined to disclose the Sriperumbudur plant's operating capacity, which it said was a factor of customer demand, planning and prevalent market conditions. However, the company was quick to add that it has "exceptional capability" to expand capacity as per customer needs.
This January, HCL and Foxconn announced forming a JV to set up an OSAT unit in the country. At the time, people in the know told ET that the total investment in the unit could be between $100 million and $150 million.
The Taiwanese company said October-December net profit jumped 33% to T$53.14 billion ($1.69 billion) from T$40 billion in the same period the previous year thanks to robust demand for AI servers and strong sales during the peak year-end holiday season.
Experts said that the addition of leading component players in addition to the big ticket suppliers just means that a lot more pieces of Apple's India story are falling in place. They said that component players setting up manufacturing facilities and becoming part of the India supply chain nicely builds the foundation blocks for Apple's diversification story.

Gou, who stepped down as Foxconn chief in 2019 and resigned as a board member last September, remains the company's largest shareholder and is still reverentially referred to by company executives as "the Founder".
